Miami, FL – U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio issued the following statement regarding tonight’s State of the Union address:
“As the President outlined his priorities for the coming year, I did not get a clear sense that he understands the underlying flaws in his approach and the changes that need to be made to govern in a more responsible fashion and confront the economic crisis his policies have made worse.
“The most pressing issue facing our country today is the struggling economy, our crushing debt and the staggering unemployment rate. Ten percent of Americans are unemployed and, here in Florida, more than a million Floridians are without work. Putting the economy back on track does not require more government programs, higher taxes or more reckless government spending. It requires just the opposite.
“Unfortunately, the President defiantly struck a course for more of the same with another spending bill disguised as stimulus, a government takeover of health care disguised as reform, and a massive new tax on Americans disguised as clean energy initiatives.
“The President also struck a curiously partisan tone while lecturing others about the evils of partisanship. He certainly didn’t move away from liberalism or to the center.
“I will go to Washington and work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, willing to protect the things that make America exceptional. I will be a voice for Floridians in standing up to misguided ideas and policies, while offering clear alternatives.”

He was a little more pragmatic but not very hopeful. The old guard in Congress has the power and he will be hard pressed to move them.
I do not like TARP money going to any new programs.
The president last night showed he does not get it. Ronald Regan said it best,”That as government expands, liberty contracts”. I am sick and tired of regulations imposed by govt. affecting my daily life and adding costs to my dail life. Please if you are elected and I hope you will, do everything you can to get govt off my back.
I agree with Mark Rubio’s comments regarding the president’s State of Union Address. The President refuses to listen to the people of this country. Neither the tea parties nor the last three elections have made any impact on his direction. He is a leader with blinders on and God help us all. He has turned a deaf ear to the concerns of the American people and the only way for us to make a difference is this November.
President Obama spoke words, just words, words without meaning. He is clueless as to how to fix todays problems and increasing the deficit is not the answer.
The state of the Union speech confirmed the obvious: The President is lost! As time progresses, it is looking like John McCain was correct in his assessment that “Obama is running for Jimmy Carter’s second term.”
The President outlines his liberal politics as usual. It is time for the old guard in Washington to go. Marco represents a fresh new face not steeped in the politics of Washington. Elections have consequences as we have seen very clearly in the past 12-months. Now is the time to bring conservative values back to Washington. Go Marco!
Too many have said that the President and his administration just ‘don’t get it’. Oh, they get it alright, they truly ‘just don’t care’. The Speaker is intent on getting ‘it’–her way. She doesn’t even seem to have a concern for the people. LEGACY is what Obama, Reid and Pelosi are seeking–not reform. If the real purpose of the reform is to benefit the millions of uninsured then why do they not simply insure them. If so many are dying each day because of a lack of health insurance then why is the Administration waiting 4-5 years to insure them?
Compare the atmosphere in the Congressional chamber from the State of the Union address (hugs, kisses, laughing, patting each other on the back, party time) to the convention when our Constitution was formed and written (serious, solemn, duty, honor, a sense of obligation). Keeping this stark contrast in mind pretty much sums up that, today, Washington is still oblivious to what their responsibilities are.
