02.24.10 | Charlie Crist: Burning Down the House that Jeb Bush Built

This has not been a good week for Charlie Crist.  Two new polls show him 18 points down. Staffers are deserting his campaign. Jeb Bush said Charlie’s support for the stimulus was “unforgivable.” Rumors are swirling about him running as an independent.  And he was forced to go on National news to announce he was going to smear Marco as his only hopes to get his desperate campaign on track. Now, he turned on his own party to leak internal documents in a failed effort to link Marco to his administration’s fiscal mismanagement. Truth is on our side.

Overview

  • First, Charlie Crist and his hand-picked crony Jim Greer destroyed the Republican Party that Jeb Bush built through lavish spending which left the Party bankrupt and rudderless. (The Orlando Sentinel, 02/08/10)
  • Now, desperate, badly trailing in the polls, and suffering the loss of key campaign staff, Charlie Crist is ignoring his own record of RPOF misspending and bilking taxpayers to launch and over-the-top and false attack on a fellow Republican.
  • By leaking personal, confidential, and internal party documents, Charlie Crist and his Team have proven that Charlie Crist is all about himself, even if it means loading up the liberal media with hyped-up anti-Republican fodder.
  • Make no mistake, Charlie Crist’s leak of internal party documents to the Miami Herald reveal nothing untoward about Marco Rubio. He never spent a dime of taxpayer money and he worked hard to ensure that RPOF donors never spent a penny on any of his personal expenditures.

Facts

  • Marco’s RPOF approved expenditures were directly related to his work as a Republican leader and were a fraction of what Charlie Crist’s hand-picked lieutenants Jim Greer and Delmar Johnson spent. Marco Rubio’s expenditures were also half of what Ray Sansom spent during a similar 2 year time period.
  • In fact, Charlie Crist’s hand-picked RPOF executive director, Delmar Johnson,  spent more in one month during a non-election year than Marco Rubio spent in TWO YEARS“From mid-July through mid-August, Johnson charged $133,763 to the party-issued card.” (The Orlando Sentinel, 02/08/10)
  • Unlike others in the Crist-Greer administration, Marco did his level best to ensure that the Party never paid for any personal expenditures, and submitted 16 personal and direct payments toward his American Express card totaling $16,052.50
  • While Charlie Crist was trying to sneak more than $200,000 into the state budget to pay for a personal videographer and billed Florida taxpayers for a European junket which wasted more than $400,000 dollars, Marco Rubio saved taxpayers $23,100 by paying for his official travel to and from Tallahassee out of party funds. • Charlie Crist’s expenses alone during a 12-day European junket which yielded no results for Florida totaled more than $30,000 – $2500 a day – or nearly what Marco Rubio spent in TWO YEARS in lodging and meals related to promoting the Republican Party in Florida.
